DISCLAIMER - Practice makes perfect. While practicing, I use dummy cakes (styrofoam cake), but you can use this decorating idea on a real cake.

I started off by coloring the frosting a dark teal color. After I reached the desired color, I placed a 1/4 cup of the colored frosting into a bowl and then another 1/8 cup of colored frosting into another bowl. I mixed in 1/4 cup white frosting into the 1/4 cup of the colored frosting and added another 1/4 cup of white frosting into the 1/8 cup of colored frosting. By doing this you are able to get the ombre effect. I took my palette knife and then spread the darkest color on the bottom third of the cake dummy. I took my next lightest color and spread it on the middle third of the cake dummy. The next lightest color was spread on the top third of the cake, the top of the cake dummy, and the bottom third of the next layer (4" cake dummy). I then spread white frosting on the rest of the 4"layer.
I melted the white compound chocolate and spread it on the top and let it drip down the sides.
The white flower was made by drawing a bigger triangle on a piece of parchment paper. Placing another piece of parchment paper over the template, I took a palette knife and spread out compound chocolate over the triangle template. After making 6 petals, I placed them in a wave drying tray to get the shape. I repeated the process, but made a smaller triangle for the middle petals. I let the chocolate set up. On a piece of parchment paper I placed a dollop of chocolate down and then started laying the chocolate petals on the dollop of chocolate. I continued to layer the petals until I had two layers of petals (Outer layer consisting of the larger petals and the inner layer consisting of the smaller petals). I added another dollop of chocolate in the center of the flower and sprinkled on some gray pearls.
I mixed the gold luster dust with some vanilla and then painted the chocolate drips. I added the gray ribbon and the flower in place. Voila! An Ombre Buttercream Cake.
As always, keep it creative and I'll see you in my next video.
