In this video tutorial you will learn how to make marshmallow fondant from your very own home! Whoop, whoop! It is so easy to make and tastes way better than the store bought fondant. You will also learn how to color fondant and make a rainbow fondant cake topper.
WHAT YOU NEED
- 16 ounces mini marshmallows
- 2 pounds powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- Crisco Vegetable Shortening
- Gel Food Coloring
Add the water to the marshmallows. Microwave the marshmallows for 1 minute and then stir. Microwave again for 1 minute and then stir. Microwave again for 30 seconds and stir. It should be smooth and shiny. Sift the powdered sugar to get rid of all the lumps. Add 3/4 of the powdered sugar into the marshmallows. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT MIX WITH YOUR HANDS AT THIS POINT. You will have a sticky mess on your hands and you will never want to make marshmallow fondant again. Use a wooden spoon and mix until all the powdered sugar is mixed in and it starts to form a ball. At this point you are going to turn it out onto a silpat mat. Use vegetable shortening and rub it all over your hands. Start kneading the fondant. Add in the rest of the powdered sugar and knead it until it becomes firm. Rub vegetable shortening all over the ball of fondant and wrap it up. Let it set up overnight.
To color the fondant, use gel food coloring and knead the fondant to distribute the color evenly. At this point, you can make whatever your heart desires.
As always, keep it creative and I'll see you in my next video!
